As a citizen from a country outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland you can apply for admission, if you hold a relevant bachelor’s degree or another relevant degree at the same educational level. Read about the admission requirements at the master programme's website.

You need to create an application in the application portal and upload all relevant documentation. This is the only way you can apply for admission.

Pay your 1st semester tuition fee

To obtain full admission to your MSc programme you need to pay the first part of your tuition fees. When you accept the offer of admission, we will send you an email with a link to our payment portal and instructions on how to make the tuition fee payment.

Deadline for paying tuition fee for the first semester: 15 April

If you fail to pay your tuition fee before the deadline, we will have to cancel your admission.

Scholarships

The Faculty of Science has a very limited number of scholarships to award outstanding non-EU/EEA MSc students. All non-EU applicants will be considered for this scholarship based on their GPA.

You can submit 3 applications for UCPH

Please note that you are only allowed to submit a maximum of 3 applications to study programmes across all faculties at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) for the same intake.

Any additional applications will be cancelled by the MSc admission office.

Keep track of your application

Once you have applied for admission, you will receive updates and messages from us in the application portal. When you receive a message in the application portal, a notification will be sent to the email you have registered in your application. Please note that emails may end up in your spam filter.

We recommend that you do not use your student email when creating your application as some universities terminate student accounts once a student has completed their degree.

  • Use Firefox or Google Chrome as a browser when creating, submitting and accessing your application.
  • Read the user guide for the application portal when you fill out your application.
  • Read the FAQ where you can find answers to the most common questions concerning the application portal.
  • Contact SCIENCE Student Services if you cannot find the answers, you are looking for in the FAQ.
  • Contact UCPH IT if you have technical problems.

You will receive all information regarding your application in the application portal.

If you fulfil the admission requirements and there are places available in the MSc programme, we will send you an offer of admission. You will receive only 1 offer of admission. It will be for the MSc programme that is the highest of your priorities where we are able to offer you admission.

If you do not fulfil the admission requirements, we will also let you know through the application portal.

We will be offering admission ongoing from 1 March until 31 May, so it is important that you check the application portal regularly during this period.

Accept your offer of admission within 5 days

You need to actively accept the offer of admission within 5 days of receiving the message in the application portal. If you do not accept the offer before the deadline, you will lose your place in the MSc programme as we will offer the place to another applicant.

Your admission offer is conditional and will include a list of conditions you must meet in order to obtain full admission, e.g. certified documentation for a completed bachelor’s degree. We will inform you of the deadlines and how to meet the conditions in the offer of admission.

Check your email and the portal regularly

When you receive a message in the application portal, a notification will be sent to the email you have registered in your application. Please note that emails from the application portal may end up in your spam filter.

We highly recommend that you check the status of your application regularly in the application portal, so you do not miss any important information.

Collect documentation for your application

As part of your application, you must submit all required documentation.

Required documentation

You must upload an official transcript of grades for the qualifying bachelor's degree you have completed or are currently enrolled in. You can only choose 1 degree as qualifying in your application.

The transcript must include:

  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Title of your degree
  • Date of completion, if you have graduated
  • An official stamp
  • A signature from your educational institution

If your transcript does not include the stamp and signature, we must be able to verify the transcript online via a link, QR code, digital signature or similar. Ask your educational institution whether it is possible.

If the transcript is in a language other than English, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian

We only accept an official English translation from your educational institution or an authorized translator. It must include stamp and signature as well.

You must describe how you fulfil the MSc programme’s admission requirements by filling out a self-assessment form. Learn more about the admission requirements on the programme website.

If you do not upload a correct self-assessment form, your application may be rejected.

Please note that there are individual self-assessment forms for each MSc programme at the Faculty of SCIENCE.

What is a self-assessment?

The self-assessment form is an overview of the academic admission requirements of the MSc programme you are applying for. You must fill out the form with the courses and projects from your bachelor's degree, that cover these academic admission requirements.

You can include both completed courses and projects and those you expect to complete as part of your bachelor’s degree If you include projects in your self-assessment form, please include a description of the project.

If you have passed courses or projects before you complete the qualifying bachelor's degree, these can be included, even though they are not part of the bachelor's degree programme.

  • It applies to courses/projects you have taken as single subjects and courses/projects you have taken as part of another study programme.
  • A maximum of 30 ECTS credits of these courses/projects may be included.


How you fill out the self-assessment form

You must download the programme's self-assessment form and follow these 3 steps when completing it:

  1. Fill in your courses that cover the academic admission requirements of the programme
  2. Save the file as an Excel file and name it: [Your name]_Self-assessment
  3. Upload your Excel file to your application.

The course titles in the self-assessment must correspond to the course titles in your official transcript.

Please include all courses and projects that can cover the admission requirements even if you end up exceeding the required ECTS amount.

You cannot list the same course twice

Please note that 1 course can only be used to cover 1 admission requirement unless you use the course to cover general admission requirements such as e.g., 30 ECTS of lab exercises or 60 ECTS within the field of natural sciences.

If you have a course that covers 2 admission requirements, e.g. the course Mathematics and Statistics of 15 ECTS, you are allowed to split the credits in 7.5 Mathematics and 7.5. Statistics if it is very clear in the course description that both subjects have been covered equally in the course.

Why you need to fill out the self-assessment form

The admission committee will use your self-assessment to assess if you are qualified for admission. If you do not upload the correct self-assessment form, the admission committee cannot assess your qualifications and your application may be rejected.

If your educational institution does not use the ECTS credit system

Read about how you can convert your educational institution's credit system to the ECTS credit system.

Upload course descriptions of the courses and projects included in your self-assessment form.

You must use this form and follow these 4 steps when completing your course description form:

  1. Fill out the course title, the course description, the term and the hours of study/credits. Please make sure that we can read all the sentences in the file
  2. Repeat for each course mentioned in your self-assessment form
  3. Save the file as an Excel file and name it: [Your name]_Course_Descriptions
  4. Upload the Excel file to your application.

We only need course descriptions of the courses and projects in your self-assessment form.

The course descriptions must be in English, Danish, Swedish, or Norwegian.

If you need help to fill out the course description form

There is a guide in the course description form on the right side of the document. This guide helps you figure out what information to include and answers the most frequently asked questions.

You must calculate your GPA in percentage using our GPA calculator so we can compare your GPA with GPAs from universities with different grading systems. We use your grade point average (GPA) to determine if you may be considered for one of the faculty’s few governmental scholarships. Additionally, some MSc programmes use GPA as a selection criterion.

How to calculate your GPA in percentage

Once you have calculated your GPA in percentage, you must enter the number in your application and upload the completed calculator sheet.

Please note that the number (GPA in percentage) you have entered cannot be altered in the portal after you have submitted your application.

If you cannot use the GPA calculator

You cannot use the GPA calculator if your transcript is with:

  • Different grading systems/levels (several scales/systems have been used for assessment within the same degree programme)
  • Letter grades that cannot be converted to number grades.

If that is the case, please upload your transcript instead.

You must upload an updated version of your CV (curriculum vitae) including a chronological overview of your academic history.

A photo is not necessary.

You must upload documentation if you have completed courses or exams from an unfinished MSc programme. We use the documentation to assess whether you are eligible for a mandatory credit transfer.

You are also obligated to inform us whether you have completed an MSc programme. Read more about the master’s degree admission rule.

  • An official transcript
  • A diploma - including all completed courses/exams at your former MSc programme

The documentation must include:

  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Title of your degree
  • Date of completion (if you have graduated)

If your transcript or diploma does not include the stamp and signature, we must be able to verify the transcript or diploma online via a link, QR code, digital signature or similar. Ask your educational institution whether it is possible.

If the documentation is in a language other than English, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian

We only accept an official English translation from your educational institution or an authorized translator. It must include an official stamp and signature.

You must upload documentation that you fulfil the requirement of English language proficiency. If you cannot provide the documentation within the deadline, your application will be rejected. We only accept certain types of documentation/language tests. Learn more about how to fulfil the language requirements on the language requirements website.

The deadline for providing proof of English proficiency will not be extended.

You must upload a copy or scan of your valid passport or national ID.

If you do not have a passport or a national ID, you must upload a statement of when you expect to receive it. A driver's license is not sufficient and will not be accepted.

The identification document must be in English, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian and include:

  • Photo
  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality
  • Expiration date

Deadline to upload your copy or scan of passport or national ID: 1 September

If you have more than 1 citizenship

Should you have more than 1 passport (citizenship) please upload the passport you will use to enter Denmark.

If you are offered admission, you must document that you have completed your bachelor's degree no later than 20 September.

We can receive your diploma in 3 following ways

1) Send us a copy of your bachelor’s diploma by email

Send the copy to msc-admissions@science.ku.dk. It is important you send it from the email you have registered in the application portal. The copy can be either a PDF or a photo of your official diploma.

The document must and include:

  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Title of your degree
  • Date of completion for all your required ECTS - even if you haven’t formally graduated yet.

If your last ECTS/credits are given at the graduation ceremony, you must wait until they have been registered.

If the diploma is in a language other than English, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian

We only accept an official English translation from your educational institution or an authorized translator. It must include an official stamp and signature.

2) Ask your university to confirm your degree completion by emailing us

The email must be sent from an official, verifiable university administration email. Send the email directly to msc-admissions@science.ku.dk. The email must include:

  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Title of your degree
  • Date of completion - even if you haven’t formally graduated yet.
  • An official stamp
  • A signature from your educational institution

If your diploma does not include the stamp and signature, we must be able to verify the diploma online via a link, QR code, digital signature or similar. Ask your educational institution whether it is possible.

If your last ECTS/credits are given at the graduation ceremony, you must wait until they have been registered.

3) Provide us with information we can use for online verification of your degree

Send an email to msc-admissions@science.ku.dk from you or your university with a link to an online verification service in English, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian. Via the online verification service, we must be able to verify:

  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Title of your degree
  • Date of completion - even if you haven’t formally graduated yet.

If your last ECTS/credits are given at the graduation ceremony, you must wait until they have been registered.

We only consider required documentation

We only consider required documentation when assessing your application. Please do not upload any additional documentation.

We will not consider or evaluate any of the following:

  • A letter of motivation or personal statement
  • Statements or evaluations from lecturers, professors, employers, etc.
  • Documentation of pre-university activities (for example high school education/upper secondary school), unless you upload it as documentation for English proficiency

Anything missing in your application?

We require that you submit all required documentation when submitting your application. We then assess whether your application is complete by looking through the required documentation. If anything is missing, we will send you a message in the application portal.

The deadline for uploading any missing documents will be 1 week from the time we contact you. We cannot extend the deadline. Make sure to check your email regularly and your spam filter too.

Please note that we are not able to review your new or revised documentation before the deadline due to the large quantity of emails we receive.

Verification of information

If we determine that you have used falsified or misleading documentation in your application, we are obligated to report it to the police, reject your application and cancel your admission.

No visa process before you are fully admitted

We will not initiate your online visa application until you have met all conditions of your admission and you are fully admitted.

Your start at the MSc programme

We look forward to meeting and welcoming you to the MSc programme. Use the timeline to see important deadlines before your studies begin.

Before courses start in September, we have made an online part of your study start. Here you will find an overview of activities and begin the first part of your introduction to your programme with our online course.

The welcome programme at your MSc will take place 26 – 30 August – the week before your courses start. Here you will meet fellow students, and get informative introductions to your new programme, your study environment and life as a new student in Copenhagen.

We will send you all information concerning your study start at UCPH to the email you have registered within the application portal.

From May to August, we will be sending welcome letters with access to our online course, which prepares you to start your new MSc programme and register for courses. You will also hear from us when you can register for welcome days at your programme.

There might be documentation you need to upload before your study start. Check your offer of admission in the application portal to see what you still need to document and what your deadline is.
