Students with diplomas from EU/EEA countries
The general admission requirement is that you have accomplished upper secondary (high) school education. Be aware, at the University of Copenhagen all bachelor programmes are taught in Danish and require the highest level in Danish or documentation for academic language skills in Danish.
Deadlines and admission
In order to be eligible for admission to a bachelor programme you need to apply before 15 March. Please note, that even though you must apply before the 15 March at 12:00, you have until the 5 July at 12:00 to upload and fulfill the admission requirements.
You can apply for admission if you:
- have an upper secondary (high) school education from a country in the EU/EEA area.
- fulfill the general and specific admission requirements
- your upper secondary exam certificate can be converted to a Danish grade point average equivalent to the Danish 6.0 (except for musicology) in quota 1. If your grade point average cannot be translated into Danish, you can only apply through quota 2.
- have documentation for Danish language qualifications.
Specific admission requirements
All of the University's bachelor programmes have specific requirements, which you have to meet.
First, you need to document that you have studied certain specific courses at certain levels equivalent to the Danish course levels:
- A (advanced level)
- B (intermediate level)
- C (elementary level).
You must have achieved these levels in the upper secondary (high) school education or during further studies at college, university or as supplementary courses.
You must include information and transcripts of levels obtained in the relevant subjects (Higher/Subsidiary level or European A1-C2 levels).
We also need to know the number of years studied in upper secondary (high) school or college/university – and in some cases the number of taught hours in the subject.
We will assess your language skills too. We will assess your level of education in your native language, English language and Danish Language.
For certain programmes we will also asses your level of education in an additional language.

We convert your diploma results to the Danish subjects and levels according to the rules set by the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education.

Grade point average
All applicants have to present a grade point average equivalent to the Danish 6.0 – or more in order to apply though quota 1. The University will convert your grades to the Danish grading scale according to the rules set by the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education in the handbook of international examinations (in Danish only).
For exams where it is not possible to calculate grade point average eg. vocational secondary educations, we make an assessment to determine whether your educational qualifications qualifies you to apply through quota 2.

The EU/EEA countries
EU/EEA countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden
Applications from Switzerland are processed within the same rules.
Brexit
The United Kingdom has left the EU, which affects applicants from the United Kingdom. From 2024 it is no longer be possible to apply through quota 1 with an upper secondary education from the United Kingdom. Applicants with diplomas from United Kingdom are still able to apply through quota 2. Furthermore, British citizens will no longer be eligible for studying tuition free in Denmark from 2024, unless they can document a residence permit due to the Brexit agreement, for that they have had their place of residence in Denmark before 1 January 2021.
