Students with an IB and other international diplomas

If you have either an International Baccalaureate (IB) or another international diploma (such as European Baccalaureate (EB) or Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB), you can apply through both quota 1 and quota 2. Be aware, at the University of Copenhagen all bachelor programmes are taught in Danish and require the highest level in Danish or documentation for academic language skills in Danish.

General admission

The general admission requirement is that you have accomplished an IB Diploma (The Diploma of the International Baccalaureate) with ’Diploma Programme (DP) Results’.

IB Certificate (Diploma Programme (DP) Course Results) is only qualifying for admission if you have minimum 18 points and at least grade 3 in all your six courses – and after completing supplementary courses: at least 1 A level subject and at least 1 B level subject.

Please read more about it in the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education’s handbook of international examinations (information in Danish only)

Grade point average

In addition to having accomplished an IB Diploma, you must present a grade point average equivalent to the Danish 6.0 – or more. Your IB points will be converted to the Danish grading scale according to the rules set by the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Edcuation in the Handbook of international examinations.

Some exams cannot be recalculated in order to find the grade point average. In these cases, we (at the UCPH Guidance and Admissions Office) make an individual assessment to determine whether your educational qualifications are comparable to a grade point average equivalent to 6.0. We do this by considering grades from all your educational credentials: IB courses, college diploma, bachelor’s degree and any additional (and supplementary) courses.

Specific admission requirements

All of our degree programmes have specific requirements, which you need to meet. First, you need to document that you have studied certain specific courses at certain levels equivalent to the Danish course levels: A (advanced level), B (intermediate level) and C (elementary level). You must have achieved these levels in the upper secondary (high) school education or during further studies at college, university or as supplementary courses.

Therefore, you must include information and transcripts of level obtained in the relevant subjects (for example Higher/Subsidiary level or European A1-C2 levels). We convert the IB results to the Danish subjects, levels and grading scale according to the rules set by the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education. Please see the Agency's handbook of international examinations.

We will assess your language skills too. To do so, we would like to see documentation that you speak, write and read your native language at the highest level (corresponding to Danish A) as well as English on B-level (intermediate level).

Straight from your IB exam

If you want to enroll at the University right after your IB graduation, you need to give the University of Copenhagen permission to see your examination results online.

Please give your permission to your IB coordinator before 1 May. Our institutional code is: 002600 - The University of Copenhagen.
