As a citizen from a country outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland, you can apply for admission if you have completed a Bachelor’s degree or are enrolled in the final semester of a Bachelor’s programme.
All applicants will be assessed in accordance to the academic requirements and the English language requirements. The applicants who meet the academic requirements will be evaluated and ranked in accordance to the selection criteria. The highest ranked of the qualified applicants get an offer to join the programme.
Application fee
Citizens from a country outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland are required to pay an application fee of DKK 750 (approx. EUR 100).
Tuition fees
As a citizen from a country outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland, you are required to pay tuition fees in connection with full degree studies at the University of Copenhagen.

How to pay your tuition fee
The Faculty of Humanities sends you an invoice for the coming semester's tuiton fee aproximately one month prior to the payment deadline. The invoice will be sent via e-mail and will include instructions on how to pay the invoice.

This programme admits students once a year for enrolment in the autumn semester. The semester begins on 1 September.

Collect documentation for your application*
You are required to upload a copy of your official transcript of records and/or diploma supplement. The official transcript of records should include a comprehensive list of courses you have taken, the grades you have obtained, and the credits / course hours per course.
You are not required to convert grades or credits to the Danish or European (ECTS) grading systems.
Only your bachelor’s degree will be assessed
Only bachelor-level courses from your completed bachelor’s degree (the bachelor’s degree must be completed prior to the start of the programme) are taken into consideration during the assessment of your academic qualifications. This means that no other courses than the courses included in your bachelor’s degree programme will be taken into consideration.
Translation of official transcripts
We accept original documents issued in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English or German. If your original documents are issued in another language, you are required to upload a certified translation to English, along with the copy of the original official document.
If you have not yet graduated
If you have not graduated at the time of application, you are required to submit a list of all courses in progress.
You are required to upload a copy of your bachelor's degree certificate(s) or equivalent documentation confirming graduation, issued by your educational institution.
Translation of degree certificates
We accept original documents issued in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English or German. If your original documents are issued in another language, you are required to upload a certified translation to English, along with the copy of the original official document.
If you have not yet graduated
If you have not graduated at the time of application, you are required to submit a list of all courses in progress.
You are required to upload a description of your bachelor's degree programme (e.g., a diploma supplement or your programme's academic regulations and/or curriculum). The description of your bachelor's degree programme is typically published on the educational institution's website or issued in hard copy by the educational institution.
The description of your bachelor's degree programme should including the following:
- Requirements for obtaining the bachelor's degree, including the number of years of full-time study and the number of credits/units/hours required for obtaining the degree.
- Description of the national grading system for your educational programme. You are not required to convert grades to the Danish or European systems.
- Description of aim and content of your bachelor's degree programme.
Translation of your bachelor degree programme's regulations/curriculum
We accept original documents issued in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English or German. If your original documents are issued in another language, you are required to upload a translation to English, along with the copy of the original official document. The translation does not need to be certified.
You are required to provide a written description of the most relevant courses completed in your bachelor's degree programme.
This information can be copied from the educational institution’s website or online course catalogue or issued as a separate document by the educational institution.
The course descriptions must include the following:
- The title of the course
- Brief summary of the course content and learning objectives
- Credits/hours
- Grades

Translation of course descriptions
We accept original documents issued in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English or German. If your original documents are issued in another language, you are required to upload a translation to English, along with the copy of the original official document. The translation does not need to be certified.
You are required to upload a letter of academic relevance.
The letter of academic relevance is your personal explanation of how your bachelor degree and possible professional experience (paid, voluntary etc.) qualifies you for admission to the Master’s programme.
The letter of academic relevance must be written in English and cannot exceed one page.
You are required to upload a Curriculum Vitae (CV).
Your CV can include the following information:
- Professional/employment experience
- Educational history, including study abroad periods
- Relevant academic activities and/or publications
- Extracurricular activities, including relevant internships, student jobs, and/or volunteer work
- Language skills and proficiency levels
The CV must be written in English.
You are required to document your English language proficiency.

You are required to document your citizenship status by uploading a copy of your passport.
If you do not currently hold a passport, you can upload a copy of your national ID card for preliminary assessment.
If you have more than one citizenship
Should you have more than one citizenship, please upload the passport you will use to enter Denmark.
If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen currently residing in Denmark with a temporary or permanent residence permit, you are also required to upload a copy of a valid Danish residence permit card (front and back) and the letter accompanying the card in the online application portal.
You are required to provide a separate list of 3-6 courses that you find relevant for the MSc in IT & Cognition in the following disciplines:
- Language Technology
- Computer Science
- Cognitive Science
- Linguistics
The list must include title of the course, description of the course, credits, and grades for the course. You must use the template for relevant bachelor courses and submit it as a PDF-file.
All admitted students are required to present original degree certificates for verification upon arrival at the Faculty of Humanities.
The University of Copenhagen reserves the right to verify all information that you have provided in your application. All forgery will be reported to relevant authorities, and admission or enrollment will be immediately revoked.

Follow your application
Once you have applied for admission, you can check the status of your application in the application portal. When you receive a message in the application portal, you will receive an email sent to the e-mail address you have registered with your application.
Tips for the application portal
- Use Firefox or Goggle Chrome as your browser when creating and submitting you application.
- Check the user guide and FAQ in order to find answers to the most common questions concerning the application portal.
- Contact Service desk if you have technical problems.
Check the result of your application
You can expect to have the result of the assessment within 4 to 8 weeks after the application deadline, and no later than 10 June.
The result of the assessment will be sent in a message via the application portal, so please make sure to log in and check your e-mail regularly.
Accept or decline the offer of admission
If you have received an offer of admission, you are required to either accept or decline the offer. If you do not accept the offer before the deadline stated in your admission letter, you risk giving up your place in the study programme. Therefore, it is important to check the status of your application regularly in the application portal.
